Lunch tomato and turkey sammich, walnuts and carrots with hummus. Water to drink

Dinner chick breast on pasta, water to drink

Ran 6k after work- been enjoying the weather this January, simply awesome, a blessing, man. Fo real.

Cjecked out taptuo burlington tonight- almost done. Its going to be helpful to reach my goals, dude.

Mon jan30

Im on the iPad, so thos will be a quick little post. That, and its late and i feel like garbage at the moment. Just too much Reading of tweets that depressed the living hell out of me. I honestly dont know why i do that.

Ate this

Breakfast smoothie: frozen berries and milk coffee on the way in

Snack peppers and hummus, walnuts and milk

Lunch tomato sandwich, hummus with peppers, walnuts and prunes, water to drink

Snack mushrrom with hummus

Dinner. Pizza with chicken breast , mushrrom and tomato on top, water to drink

Had a power nap after dinner, got the kids to bed and shovelled for about a half hour. Did my driveway, neighbours on both sides and a faolir amount of sidewalk.

Stepped inside and did this for five rounds;

30 kb two handed swings
20 feet up push ups

Meh, i feel tired and cranky, off to bed.

You know, it was annoying today. Mrh, I got things done.

In any case, I got a 5 k run in the morning, and I tried to get another run completed in the evening, but my iPhone didn't record it, so I can't "claim" it, but I got a 3k run completed, too.

Ate this

Breakfast: roast beef and eggs. Coffee and water to drink

Lunch: roast beef and peppers, almonds, carrots and hummus, water to drink.

Snack: almonds and water

Dinner: chicken, carrots and cauliflower. Water to drink.

This week coming up: more workouts in the gym, keep up the runs. Which means, I will be working out at least three times and running most of the days of the week. I made this week's training goals, and this is only a minor increase. However, I have to recall that there is a number of issues that might pop up this week, not the least of which might be starting another job.

I mush prefer days with a specific pattern; Saturdays are not following a pattern of late, and the weather today didn't help.

I went on two runs today, total distance was 10 kms. Not bad. I wish I could find a place to get on the mats. I did get a message from a buddy who's fighting March 16 in Hamilton. Going to help him out this week coming up.

Ate this:

Breakfast: eggs and roast beef coffee and water to drink.

Snack: almonds and coffee

Lunch: roast beef and peppers

Dinner: pasta, vegetables and water to drink.

Right. Off to bed. It's getting late.

Friday Jan 27

This was a long day.

In any case, I got through it.

Breakfast: smoothie, coffee

Snack: water

Lunch: an event at work: pizza, meatballs, tuna wraps, with hummus and vegetables. Water to drink.

Dinner: Lasagna

After Lunch I did this for five rounds:

20 two handed swings
20 push ups
10 one arm rows 30 lbs
20 seated knee tucks
15 bench flies 30 lbs

After that, had to be a dad. After everyone was in bed, did a 5.5k run.

Thurs Jan 26

Off for two days ... and then another. Man, it's tough. No seriously, I'm wondering about the pile of work on my desk. Going to be awful.

Ate this: smoothie and coffee

Snack: coffee

Lunch: tuna on bread, peppers and carrots. Water to drink

Snack water, water and more water

Dinner: lasagna and salad. OJ to drink.

After dinner, fell asleep on the couch. Nice. My little one woke me up with hitting me with a wooden spoon, which wasn't so nice. After almost everyone was in bed, I got a 5 k run in.

The rest of the day tomorrow is about survival. Just survive the day and we'll get through it.

Wed jan ... W/e

This was a rough day ... not because of what I was asked to move or run from, bit because of the demands of my self. Imagine an entire day with a year ild. In two rooms.

I am grateful for the time with my boy. Nothing will ever bring back today., i know that. Budt it was frustrating just how needy he can be. I love him, but .. But nothing. I love him. Shaddap, man.

I ate well

Breakfast was three scrambled eggs on toast woth tomato and coffee

Lunch was chicken breayt on bread

Coffee for snack

Sinner was moar chicken with rice and carrots

Water... I drank a lot of wayer after checking weight at 226.1 this morning, man.

Tuesday Jan 24


I'm trying to find the happiness in my life at the moment. Just a lot of people crapping on my head for stuff. Just a lot of people going/coming after me and my family. I need a break, and none seem forthcoming.

Meh, forget it.

I ate this today:

Breakfast: smoothie; frozen berries and OJ. Coffee after.

Snack: coffee, coffee and another coffee. It was free.

Lunch: tuna, walnuts, water and prunes. Peppers and hummus. Good stuff.

Dinner: bowl of chilli, water with a dessert ... which I cannot recall.

In any case, I went on two runs today, total distance was 11.4 kilometers. About 1200 calories used up. I'm so checking my weight tomorrow.

I am grateful that I can do this. I know that there are a billion people on this planet that would gladly trade their problems for mine. I do love my problems...but they are still problems... you have to give me that, at least. Ah, well, I'm off tomorrow. Which is totally crappy...

Monday Jan 23

Well, it continues to be one of the warmest Januarys I can recall. It rained today. Seriously, I can recall snowbanks eight feet tall when I was a kid ... and it rained today. I prefer rain to snow, however and that will be the end of my rant.

I got a combo workout done today, but I can't say I enjoyed it much.

I got this done for five rounds:

20 feet up push ups
20 KB swings - used one of the 12 kilo bells I won
10 KB snatches each side
20 seated knee tucks

It was a quick workout and I know the bell was too light for me. But I'll admit, I just wanted to use it once; I really got them for my daughters to use this spring and summer.

After that workout, I went on what was supposed to be a 4k run. In the middle the iPhone started to add up. I stopped the run, and stopped and restarted the phone. Annoying, really. I felt sluggish as it was and the rain didn't help matters. Anyway, I got to 1405 kms run on my Nike+ page, which is what I wanted from today. I also got one of my gym workouts done, too.

Ah, man. The Blue Meanines are at it again. Kids are fighting, wife is upset. Money is tight and tomorrow is Monday. I got a run in, at least. I also got to set some goals for the week: workout at least twice this week with arun as often as I can - five runs or better.

Should be easy.

I ate this:

Breakfast: pancakes, maple syrop and coffee

Snack water

Lunch: tuna on bread with veggies. Water to drink

Dinner: pan fried steak with home made chilli after. Onion, corn, mushrooms and tomato in a pot with ground beef. Awesome. Water to drink.

Saturday Jan 21

My Saturday...ahh. Nice to have the honour of a day of rest. It's nice and I know most of the people on this planet never get one. I took full advantage. I got up nice and early with my youngest, getting him going on a bottle and then a meal by 7am. Before I ate anything, I did check my weight: 228. Which was a nice surprize, considering what my diet has been Thursday and Friday. I myself made breakfast for my family and then ate well all day. I picked up my kettlebells from StrengthBox and got a chance to hang out:


After getting home from that, I got a chance to rest, relax and kind of just get in a much better head space. I will be working on getting an additional job next week and so I needed some down time. I also got a chance to think about stuff - like why I am at 228- while on my run. Seems if you eat better and run more, you lose weight. I am going to try that again this week with some body weight and kettle bell workouts, too. Didn't get enough of that this week; I'm hoping the stinky garbage smell is gone from my gym.

I ate this

Breakfast: eggs and chicken leg from the slow cooker. Coffee and coffee to drink.

Lunch: nuts, peppers and hummus, tuna on a slice of bread. Water to drink.

Snack coffee and almonds

Dinner: chicken and veggies. Water to drink. Tea for dessert.

I played with my boy for a while, took a short nap and then got him in bed. After I helped get the other kids in bed, I went for my run. All in all I think I made a good use of my day... Raymond K Hessel I am not:



Even if I fail, I still beat everyone who didn't try.

Friday Jan 20

Right, today I was off for some professional development at work. My co-coworkers went on as normal, and I got to sit in the conference room and confer. I was poking around teh interwebs on my iPad while the event went on. I showed the presented the Apple event video I'd seen the night before.

In any case, I was also back to the regular disciplined guy today, too.

Breakfast: smoothie, and coffee. It's just yummy. I'll have to get pics up.

Snack: more coffee and a hockey puck like muffin they serve at conferences

Lunch: peppers, hummus, walnuts and almonds. Water to drink.

Dinner: small bowl of soup and the last samosa from Thursday. Oh, man....yummy.

I also did get a 6k run in. I wanted to get past Thursday. I also needed some time to think. I got up this morning and my dear sweet wife looked at me and asked "We're not getting two pay cheques from you next month, are we?" Yeah, it's become necessary to seek other employment, man.

Wednesday and Thursday Jan 18 and 19

This was a "light and dark" kind of a combination for me.

Wednesday I demonstrated a great deal of discipline and stuck to everything that was healthy and focused on this event. Thursday was an OFF day. Meh, they were both good

Wednesday:

Breakfast: smoothie - frozen fruit and milk in a blender, coffee on the way in

Snack: almonds and coffee

Lunch tuna, almonds and walnuts, peppers and hummus. Water to drink

Snack: water, water and more water

Dinner: small bowl of pasta

After my first shift and going to pick up my kids, I went for a quick 4k run. It was a nice diversion and got me out of my troubles, at least for a few minutes. I also got a message from StrengthBox owner: I got to go and pick up my kettlebells this Saturday.

Thursday, however, was my cheat day. No workout, just food, as I hosted an event at work.

Breakfast: smoothie and coffee

Lunch: 3 samosas, cinnabuns, yummy snacks of a fatty and calorically void nature. Coffee and water. Oh, my that was a cheat meal.

Dinner: a light soup and a samosa and a nap on the couch. I couldn't move.

Sunday, Monday and Tuesday

Yeah, I guess i got busy this week. Sunday i got a run in late. I got it in.

I had a long day on Monday, but I got a chance to drop by Tapout and was pretty stoked to see the progress. February. After my second shift of the day, I got home and went for a run.

On Tuesday, I got a nice, albeit not unexpected surprise in that I checked weight and I found out I was 229. Nice.

I switched breakfast into a smoothie and lunch is now veggies and hummus. Lots of water, too.

Dinner, still, is a difficult meal, as I am being cooked for. Meh, at least tomorrow we'll have what i want... I did some putting together in the slow cooker.

Sall good. I even sat through a meeting at the rugby club tonight and got through it without any thing eating or drinking. That's rare, man.

Man, it was pleasant being off, but with a lot of issues around, I'm just trying to spend my day out of the way. I went for two runs today: total of 9.3k.

I ate this:

Breakfast - bacon, veggie and egg wraps with coffee and water. Awesome post run meal.

Lunch Grilled cheese sandwich my wife prepared

Dinner was roast beef with rice and carrots that I prepared. With water to drink. After had a green tea.

Then I went for my rather chilly second run of the day.

Fri Jan 13




This was another odd little day. It was payday, which was nice, but all the money was already spoken for. So, yeah. That was the sucky part. Not sure if "sucky" is even a word, but I don't like swearing on my blog, so, that is as awful a piece of language as I am going to use here.

In any case, I got home after work, tried to make a few phone calls ... and got put on hold. My fault for trying to get stuff done on a Friday afternoon. Which also means I didn't get a workout in the gym. I did get a 5.5 k run in later, though. I didn't really want to go for a run, but I went anyways. I'm so sick of being this heavy.

Ate this today:

Breakfast: tuna sandwich at work. Coffee on the way in.

Snack: coffee

Lunch: tuna on salad, almonds, water to drink. I waited until the lunch room was clear of bodies: I just wanted to eat in peace.

Snack: two slices of pizza (my one fall down today)

Dinner: chicken and boiled vegetables, water to drink. Tried a few of my son's dessert. Ew. They were pretty gross. No wonder he doesn't eat them...

I was back at it again today. Felt good - here's what I ate:

Breakfast: smoothie - frozen fruit and milk in the blender. Coffee after

Snack: coffee and almonds

Lunch Tuna and salad with water, water and more water.

Dinner: small slice of pizza left over from last night, 3 hot dogs on bread. Water to drink.

Right, that last meal is the one that is killing me. I'm not exactly sure what I can do about it when I plan a meal and my wife makes something else for everyone. Hmmm...

I any event, I did this in the after noon:

Three rounds of:

20 feet up push ups
10 TRX body rows
6 KB snatches each side - 44lb KB used
20 seated or hanging knee tucks

After I got that done, I went for a 3.5 k run. Then I went and picked up my daughters and son. That was cool. After dinner and bedtime, I went for another run, this time was a 5 k run. Yeah, I'm pretty tired.

As I have mentioned before, my MacBook is like another hand; missing it working is like missing my left hand.

Dinner was a lot : crackers, hummus, two slices of pizza with water to drink.

... and no workout today, as I had meetings and a second shift take my training time away from me.

Tues Jan 10

OK, this is a weird week, man. Today I was not at my regular job, I was at a meeting of people trying to figure out what is going to happen to libraries in my community.

Yes, I am a responsible adult. I also drank WAAAAAAAAAAAAY too many coffees.

Breakfast: smoothie: frozen fruit blended with milk.

Snack; muffin and coffee

Snack: coffee

Lunch: coffee, then later had my usual tuna on salad with almonds and water

Dinner: coffee .... just kidding, wondering if anyone would actually see that... had a very nice meal with my three kids of rice with slow cooked ham. Water to drink. A lot of water.

My wife got home and she was kind of down; wanted to see about getting back into swimming. There's a local LA Fitness with a pool, so she went and checked it out. When she got home, she had me then go to check it out. It's nice. It had lots of television screens in front of a lot of recumbent bikes and treadmills. The pool had a hot tub right beside it. The weight machines were well looked after, and being used by a lot of people. The sauna looked amazing.

There were no wrestling mats, just six punching bags and no kettlebells. I was sorry to say that I couldn't join. Meh, back to my cold home gym.

Speaking of which, I did this five rounds today:

20 kb swings -20kilo bell used
20 feet up push ups
10 TRX body rows
20 seated knee tucks

just the basics, man. I had to get back into the gym. Had to. Needed to. I got my stuff taken care of, and after I got back from seeing the LA Fitness, I went for a run. Felt good to get a second workout of the day completed. fo Sho.

Mon Jan 9

This is late ... because I was occupied yesterday. I don't mean Occupied, I mean just plain old fashioned busy.

I got two extra shifts yesterday - people were away at work and I have extra stuff to do regardless. Meh, life goes on, man.

I ate ok:

Breakfast: smoothie: frozen fruit and milk in a blender, coffee to drink

Snack: tea

Lunch: tuna on salad, water to drink. Almonds for dessert

Dinner: hummus on crackers with green pepper to start. Small bowl of pasta and tuna. Water to drink.

No workout, as I was really stupidly busy. Stupid busy, Stupid.

Sun Jan 8

This is post 401 ... whoa. That's kinda cool, really.

I'm not sure if that means I've worked out 401 times, but that I've posted 401 times. I'm pretty sure I've worked out that many times, though. In any case, I'm going to sit for a few minutes and admire that thought

Ok, back at it.

Today was a wash - I knew it was going to be. Just too much going on, a lot of "hurry up and wait" ... and I found mice poop in my kitchen. Never a good sign of a good day. I had planned on an early morning workout, but my boy kept waking me up last night, so when I got up, the sun had beaten me into the morning sky. I wanted an afternoon workout while my boy slept, but man, he really didn't have a nap today. Very clingy, too. So, I did the best I could with what I had - a six kilometer run later on, after almost everyone was asleep.

Right here's what I ate:

Breakfast: coffee

Brunch: 2 eggs and toast, water and tea to drink.

Snack: almonds and water

Dinner: almonds, pasta and a small salad. Nice. Water to drink.

Right, waited until the kids were in bed and that food had digested, then did the run. Man, I'm so glad that I get back to a regular routine tomorrow. Should be a good one.

I was very disappointed that I didn't get a chance to wrestle this Break. Very disappointed. Will have to look at options now - I have to get on a mat, and soon.

Sat jan 7

So this is being blogged from the iPad, so it will be brief, im sorry to say.

Two runs today, if only because I didnt get two done yesterday and I wanted to proove something to myself. Added together, the runs were just over 10k

Friday Jan 6

I saw this on my Twitter feed - a bit of fun, man.

Man, what a day - it's nice being off, but I am really missing my routine of work and training. At least on a sunny note, I have solved the issue of my black Macbook screen for free. There's an app that will let me link my Macbook to another device, like my iPad (or iPhone in a pinch) and use it as another monitor/touch screen. It might be a little slow, but I don't need speed, I need a workaround.

In any case, I went for an early morning run, and was planning on an evening run, but my boy and my procrastination kinda lead me to sit on my butt and not do the second run. I really should have done a gym workout, but didn't. Meh, tomorrow.

At least I got the one 5k run in.

I ate ok today, too:

Breakfast: chicken and salad wraps with coffee to drink.

Snack: more coffee

Lunch roast beef with salad. Water to drink.

Dinner: chicken, soup and water water water!

I also read my stats from 2011 on the Mike+ website. I didn't run as much with the sensor this year as I had done in the year previous. I knew that was an issue, but really, I am in much better shape that I was this time in 2011, man. I feel better, too.

Tues Jan 3

Well, today was a step in the right direction. Sort of. I will get back to keeping my food diary now as well - the holidaze are over, and I need to focus on getting down to weight. 211 is a long way off.

Right, I went to my gym today but was rudely interrupted, so I only got this done twice:

20 feet up push ups
30 kb swings - 30 lb bell used
10 hanging knees to chest

I had to go be a dad at that point in time, so I thought to get a run in tonight. I did an almost 6k run - 5.7k run, in the freaking cold. Meh, I dressed properly and got a good use of calories. I felt good at the end.


I did drop by Taptou Burlington today - or was it yesterday. I'm so confused. It's not open, and won't be open for a while. I was really looking forward to getting on the mats. I'll keep my readers posted about that.

I ate this today:

Breakfast: roast beef wraps, the last of the beef from Sunday. Salad. Coffee to drink.

Snack: coffee

Lunch: rye bread and hummus, banana, water and I shared some of my son's sandwich. More water to drink.

Dinner: chicken with rice and veggies. Water to drink.

After run snack: salsa with tostitos while watching a film with my wife. Kinda silly, really.

It was that last meal and the lunch I'm going to have to correct if I want to get down to 211. I know that. I also have to manage my time a bit better. I'll get two workouts in for the rest of the week, I'm sure. After that, I'll be back to a schedule for work and I'll get more time to myself.

Other than that, life is good at the moment. I like not having to go to work, but I do have a number of things that need to be done this week. And... I have to get myself together for training. I also need to find a place to roll.

Dec 31, Jan 1 and 2

My baby, my sweet innocent little Macbook is having difficulties this break. The poor little thing has lost its screen. i'm writing this on my iPad while my family stands and watches me type in the living room.

hi, sweetheart!

dec 31 was a stretching day. I spentt the day feeling like a zombie, having my children waking me up early and keeping me up late. We watched the ball drop online, which was a first for me. Cables days are done.

Jan 1 was a rest day. My diet is sucking, but what ever. I keep focussed on the fact that come March, I will be on weight.

Jan 2, I was back at it, getting a run in just before my wife went to her swimming session. I also finished off a lot of the junk in my fridge, leftovers from all the social events I attended this break.
